Palmer, IL: Witch’s Bridge
Supposedly in the 1800’s a woman was hung off the side of this bridge for being a witch. Since then, it is said that if you stop on the bridge late at night you will hear footsteps. Also it is reported that if you look out your review mirror you see her hanging. If you stay too long, it might take a minute to restart your car. Also, strange lights flicker over the creek below.
Also it is said that if you walk across it you have brought bad luck upon yourself, and a girl was hung out there on that bridge. Supposedly the man who killed his family in Stone Cabin hung himself on the bridge.

Owaneco, IL: UFO Sightings
8/20/2005 – Shape: Oval;Duration:30 secs;
Large very bright oval object that appeared to the right, left then right.
I was driving my car north on the Stonington & Owaneco blacktop about 11:30am on a saturday morning. The weather was nice and the sky was clear. There were very few clouds. I was looking down the road when a very bright light drew my attention upward and to the right. A very big bright light, like a reflection of the sun from a mirror, appeared in the sky. I tried looking at it but it was like looking at the sun. I slowed the car down and stopped the car at a stop sign. I looked up again and it was still there but was smaller (less than half the size) and had moved to the left. It looked like it was farther away. You could look at it now without hurting your eyes. It was oval in size but almost as wide as long. The light was still bright but it vibrated. After about 8 seconds it appeared to the right and was alot smaller (again less than half the size). I did not see it move to the right, it just appeared. It seemed far away. After about 10 seconds it was gone. It could had been an airplane but it went from closeup to far away in just seconds. There was no noise. I had the windows down. It seemed to appear to the right, then appear to the left and then appear to the right without moving. I saw an airplane about 10 minutes later and it reflected the sun but wasn’t that bright and was a long oval shape. What I remember the most about it was the size was huge and it was very very bright.

Mrs. S. W. Culp found a ghold chain embedded in a lump of Coal in 1891. The I-Files: By Jay Rath
An Ancient Gold Chain
Yet another instance of a strange discovery coming to us from the distant past. This time it involves a gold chain being found in a lump of coal believed to be 260-320 million years old. The story was first told by The Morrisonville Times on June 11, 1891. The paper said:
A curious find was brought to light by Mrs. S. W. Culp last Tuesday morning. As she was breaking a lump of coal preparatory to putting it in the scuttle, she discovered, as the lump fell apart, embedded in a circular shape a small gold chain about ten inches in length of antique and quaint workmanship. At first Mrs. Culp thought the chain had been dropped accidentally in the coal, but as she undertook to lift the chain up, the idea of its having been recently dropped was at once made fallacious, for as the lump of coal broke it separated almost in the middle, and the circular position of the chain placed the two ends near to each other, and as the lump separated, the middle of the chain became loosened while each end remained fastened to the coal. This is a study for the students of archaeology who love to puzzle their brains over the geological construction of the earth from whose ancient depth the curious is always dropping out. The lump of coal from which this chain was taken is supposed to come from the Taylorville or Pana mines [southern Illinois] and almost hushes one’s breath with mystery when it is thought for how many long ages the earth has been forming strata after strata which hid the golden links from view. The chain was an eight-carat gold and weighed eight penny-weights.
The chain was passed on to an unknown family member after Mrs. Culp’s death in 1959 and can not be traced. This leaves us with little conclusions since the object in question is no longer around to have modern verification. There’s a strong tendency to disbelieve what comes to us before the late 20th century and our material minds require proof, although, even if it were provable, the geologists would find any excuse to dismiss the gold chain artifact as a forgery and would forget about it with a loud hush. So all we have is an ancient news article telling about an even more ancient mystery. If we’re lucky, the chain’s present possessor will come forth as the artifact gains more fame – providing us with a look into the distant past.

Well I live in Taylorville and sometimes i go to Kincaid to visit my grandma. Well My cousins Connor and Alex were over (By the way i’m 12 just so u know), and it wuz 1:00 in the morning . Well we were all outside playing a game. My brother Clayton and my two Cousins were on a team, they had a flashlight. So I was o a team with my Best Frieand Jennifer and we also had a flashlight . Well my grandma lives next to a cornfield and the storage sheds are across the road from us . We kinda live out in the middle of nowhere … kinda . Well we split up . Well when we got done counting we searched and searched for them . They were no where to be found . So my friend was like , ” Why don’t we go check in the field ? ” My mouth was open in shock . I told her , ” ARE YOU NUTZ !!!???!!! THE FIELD LEADS TO THE WOODS !!!! ” I actually started crying . I mean , hey , it was dark out . So i went into the field with her . Shaking to death of course . We split up .
She was so dark into the field that i coudln’t see her anymore . I started to get scared because i was hearing footsteps behind me . So i look behind me . Nobody there . Finally the noise came again . This time when i looked bak , I saw a women . She had blood all over her . I dropped my flashlight . She started to come towards me . And she had this scary voice . She said , ” Now child , You shouldn’t be out here alone ” I almost peed my pants . I started to run . I was screaming , ” HELP !!! JEN !!! O MY GOD !!! HELP ME !!! ” I heard Jen screaming , ” SIERRA !!! WHERE ARE YOU !!!???!!! ” Finally i got out of the field . Then next came out Jen . I hugged her to death and cried my eyes out . I told her what happend . What happend to Connor , Alex , and Clayton you say ? Well they tricked us . They went inside and fooled us . I never have gone bak into that field since !!!

12/11/1997-Shape: Triangle;Duration:4-5 Seconds;
Triangular flash of 7 fast moving lights-speed of sound.
Silent, swift, fast moving triangular shaped 7 lights moving swiftly from South to North. Clear evening, temperature balmy 55 degreeF. Approx 9:30 PM and no clouds. Was stargazing with no binocculars or telescope and was to go in and saw lights coming towards me overhead. Passed quickly and followed and was in overhead Chicago 200 miles away in 4-5 seconds. Est speed 50 miles a second therfore 180,000 miles per hour. Saw no structure and could have been a dispersed meteor, but the parts never fell to the ground. The distance seperation of the 7 lights also did not vary. Immediately told and described to my Wife. Size: Cassiopeia sized Triangle, with esch light brightness of Sirius approx mag 4. White lights each one. Not blinding but bright. Impressed with the speed. No sound absolutely silent.
